lyrics

Ever since I was young
I wanted people to hear what I sung
So they could see just how my mind unfurled
But I am not profound
There are better poets around
Who can change the way you think about the world
Everything I say comes out hollow
And those whose footsteps I follow
Are simply superior to me.
Yeah it really gets me down
When they are gold and I am brown
What's the point in making anything?

Everything I could ever want to write about has been done before
By someone far more talented and insightful than I am.
But that can't stop me from creating anthems of mediocrity.
I'm like Robin to someone's Batman

Every single time I write a song
I wonder if I come across wrong
And sound like I'm doing nothing but crying
And I try to immitate
The idols on whom I fixate
But everytime what I create's so unsatisfying
So I'll scrap a song, scrab an album
Hey, maybe I should write a ballad,
After all, if it's what the people want...
When I am on stage
I'm overcome by artistic rage
But after the show I act so nonchalant

Everything I could ever want to write about has been done before
By someone far more talented and insightful than I am.
But that can't stop me from creating anthems of mediocrity.
I'm like a Robin to someone's Batman

Even if I come up with something that I think is alright
The day will come when it is nothing but an empty lie.
Nothing that I say will stay true forevermore
And even if I could, I'm sure it's something I'd be sorry for.

So I'll stay hidden in
The shadows of the greats
Because I can't even begin
To make a single thing that could ever equate.

Everything I could ever want to write about has been done before
By someone far more talented and insightful than I am.
But that can't stop me from creating anthems of mediocrity.
I'm like a Robin to someone's Batman

about

A Bird Among Men Bath, Maine

ABAM is Robyn Crews and I make
tongue in cheek, self deprecating folk punk from mid-coast Maine!

I started this project because I don't have enough friends to make a real punk band.
